Meet The Crew: Third Coast Renegades Angling Club

Get the inside scoop on the clubs of SFC's new era

With the official launch of the 14 new professional angling clubs competing in SFCs new format, get to know the names, logos and faces behind the new era of competitive offshore fishing. Introducing Third Coast Renegades Angling Club.

Behind the Renegades name
Representing the Texas coast from Port Arthur at the Louisiana State line to the Houston/Galveston area, the “Third Coast” name has been used to describe the Gulf Coast of the United States. Third Coast also refers to Houston’s history as a major film set location for movies over the years, behind Los Angeles and New York. The Renegades moniker pays tribute to the elite horsemen and sharpshooters who refused to commit treason during the US Civil War and marched eastward to New Orleans, forming the First Texas Union Cavalry.

Behind The Angling Club Logo & Colors
The orange color represents the dirt and the hides of the steers that are synonymous with the state, while black symbolizes the cover of night utilized both by the original Renegades for safe passage, and present-day sport fishermen on their hundred-plus mile journeys chasing billfish. The renegade character's hat and bandana serves a double meaning for the "bandit" look to remain anonymous while in transit, while professional fishermen utilize hats and buffs to protect their faces from the harsh elements offshore.

The Squad (Coming Soon)
The Renegades have a roster secured, but that news deserves its own announcement, coming at the conclusion of our Angling Club reveals. Free agency signing periods have nicknames like “silly season” in Formula One, “the hot stove” in Major League Baseball and “rostermania” in eSports for a reason. SFC’s first-ever free agency period was set in motion by the March 11 landmark agreement between the league and its angling club. What we have learned so far is that sport fishing free agency needs a nickname of its own.
