TEAM POLARIZER CLIMBS SFC LEADERBOARD AFTER OFFSHORE SHOWDOWN IN CAPE MAY

Dallas, Texas – Sport Fishing Championship (SFC), the governing body of saltwater tournament fishing, announced the results for the South Jersey Yacht Sales Offshore Showdown. Team Polarizer finished in second place overall for the tournament, which was held in Cape May, New Jersey, and served as the first stop in the season’s Northeast Atlantic swing.

Team Polarizer’s second place finish earned them 3,000 points and brought them to fifth overall on the SFC leaderboard. They caught and released a white marlin, in addition to reeling in numerous mahi mahis and a 120-pound yellowfin tuna. This is Team Polarizer’s second consecutive finish in second place, having taken the same slot in the first Atlantic Division tournament of the season in St. Augustine.

“We’re really happy with our white marlin release, can’t complain about that,” said Greg Robinson, Team Polarizer Angler. “We’re looking forward to getting up to Martha’s Vineyard next week, that’s a new area for us. Hopefully we can get on the leaderboard again!”

The first-ever bigeye tuna for SFC’s Championship Fish Division was weighed during the Offshore Showdown. Angler Asha Chakrabarti, a 15-year-old junior lady angler, reeled in a bigeye tuna weighing 167 pounds.

The area of this tournament is a big tuna fishery, and that was shown at the scales, with numerous tuna and mahi mahi being weighed over both competition days.

SFC tournament points accrue based on a team’s placement in the final tournament standings, with the first-place team earning 3,500 points, the second-place team 3,000 points, and so forth. Placements in the tournament standings are determined from tournament-only points based on species of fish caught and released, with the highest consideration given to blue marlin, then white marlin and spearfish, and finally sailfish and swordfish.

Next week, the season’s next tournament will kick off on Wednesday, July 12, in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts for the Oak Bluffs Bluewater Classic.

The season’s events thereafter include: the Tri-State Canyon Shootout in Block Island, Rhode Island, July 24-27; the Texas International Fishing Tournament in South Padre Island, Texas, August 4-6; and conclude with the San Juan International Billfish Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico, August 23-25.
