BILLFISH CONSERVATION PROJECT JOINS SFC AS LEAGUE’S SECOND “COMMUNITY CHAMPION”

Industry Leader in Management and Conservation of Billfish Gains SFC’s Highest Level of Corporate Support to Fund Initiatives

Dallas, TX (December 18, 2024) - Sport Fishing Championship (SFC) announced today their support of the Billfish Conservation Project (BCP) as the league’s second “Community Champion,” ahead of the 2025 SFC Season. Through this partnership, BCP receives complimentary league media assets, sponsorships, networking and hospitality passes, and a sizeable cash donation, with a total commitment in the six figures.

The Billfish Conservation Project will have a league-wide charitable and promotional campaign set to debut the week of World Oceans Day, June 8, 2025, designed to drive awareness to BCP’s mission while leveraging SFC’s media platform for charitable donations to the 501c-3. Details of the World Oceans Day campaign will be announced in early 2025.

SFC’s Community Champions program was launched in 2022 and is the league’s charitable arm supporting organizations making an impact in coastal fishing communities across North America, the Caribbean and Central America. The Billfish Conservation Project is only the second charitable organization to receive the league’s highest-level of corporate support, joining the Coast Guard Foundation who has been recognized as a Community Champion since 2023.

“This is an exciting moment and opportunity for the Billfish Conservation Project,” said BCP Executive Director, Fred Garth. “Joining Sport Fishing Championship as a Community Champion is an honor, and through this program BCP will significantly benefit through the league’s platform to drive awareness and funds to our conservation efforts. We’ve known Mark Neifeld and have admired the work of SFC for years, and BCP is excited to lock arms with the league.”

“This is about securing the environment that enables SFC to thrive,” added Mark Neifeld, CEO & Commissioner of SFC. “The ocean is our arena at SFC, and by supporting the Billfish Conservation Project we know we’re supporting conservation and sustainability efforts to preserve and protect billfish populations through a myriad of well-designed programs and research initiatives.”

Founded in 2019, the Billfish Conservation Project has worked with government agencies, academia, tourism departments and in the field to improve the management and conservation of billfish stocks by promoting the socioeconomic development of prolific billfish regions.

SFC’s 2025 schedule kicks off at SFC Media Days at the Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show, February 12-16, where a percentage of all merchandise sales will benefit the Billfish Conservation Project.
