TEAM QUANTIFIED WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE SFC GULF CHAMPIONSHIP IN SOUTH PADRE ISLAND

Dallas, Texas – Sport Fishing Championship (SFC), the governing body of saltwater tournament fishing, wrapped up their Gulf Championship Division season on Sunday at the 82nd Texas International Fishing Tournament, with Team Quantified winning their second consecutive Gulf Championship in South Padre Island, Texas.

Team Quantified cemented their win with a blue marlin, three white marlin and twelve sailfish catches at the tournament. Their top three finishes for the year were all in first place, constituting a perfect score and earning them a total of 10,500 points and the $100,000 prize for the Gulf Championship Division.

“Now two years in a row, we’ve got a taste of it on our tongue and we’re going to be hard to beat,” said Team Quantified captain Justin Drummond. “I couldn’t ask for a better crew, those guys are animals. It means a lot to us to win, it’s what makes it all feasible to go after the title again. Going into Puerto Rico next, I’m betting we swing the bat and I promise we’ll be a force to be reckoned with there.”

Team Rising Sons also had a big weekend, releasing two blue marlin after three-hour fights with each. Angler Jaselyn Berthelot released both fish, earning her more points than any other angler, and was awarded Texas Offshore Grand Champion, the most prestigious award at the Texas International Fishing Tournament.

SFC tournament points accrue based on a team’s placement in the final tournament standings, with the first-place team earning 3,500 points, the second-place team 3,000 points, and so forth. Placements in the tournament standings are determined from tournament-only points based on species of fish caught and released, with the highest consideration given to blue marlin, then white marlin and spearfish, and finally sailfish and swordfish.

The season’s penultimate tournament, the White Marlin Open, kicks off in Ocean City, Maryland, on August 7 and continues through August 11. After, the season’s final tournament will begin on Thursday, August 23, in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the San Juan International Billfish Tournament.
