The SFC sat down with Don Hargroder of Hurricane Hole Marina in Grand Isle, LA, who shared the 5 things you need to know about Hurricane Hole!
1. Morale is high! “It was the saddest thing I’ve personally witnessed, a lot of people lost everything. But we love our little island and people don’t want to leave, they’re fighters. And the ones that had to leave are coming back!”. “Ultimately, I want everyone to feel like they won, we are trying to make sure everyone has something positive in their life right now.”
2. The Gulf Coast is ready to rock! “We have always been a great tournament for competitors and visitors but this year we are all excited to be on national television!” “They all [other Gulf marinas] got hit like we did, hard. But these guys are back, they’re not quitters, gotta be ready to play ball.”
3. The bites are strong! “The fish are there, we just gotta get to them”. “Out of Hurricane Hole, we are getting a lot of signs of Marlin about 70 miles out. Tuna, and Wahoo too, there’s several rigs out there that hold fish all the time no matter what is going on”.
4. Should be a packed weekend, “There will be bands, cook-offs, heck we already got people that drive all the way from Shreveport for the weigh in’s every year”. “It’s a great experience for kids too. The whole Marina has so much to offer and it’s all gated to safely free roam.”
5. Architecture, “On a trip a few years back to the Bahamas I was in awe of all the colorful buildings, and thought we could bring that back home.” And while you’re enjoying the view you have to stop by for the best tuna tacos at the Blue Marlin Bar!”
